COMMUNICATIONS - How to get the information you need
The Competition Center communicates pertinent information about our programs, competitions, training schedules, and more via email, website, and social media.

In addition to the newsletters sent by our communications team, program directors and head coaches will send emails via the Member Portal, so it's important to ensure your contact information is up-to-date prior to each season. You can review your current contact info in the Member Portal under the Household section.

COMPETITION CENTER WEBSITE WWW.WPCOMPCENTER.COM
You will find general information on our programs, registration information, resources, volunteer opportunities, events, and other frequently asked questions at www.wpcompcenter.com. Questions can also be directed to ccenter@winterparkresort.com.

COMPETITION CENTER MAIN OFFICE
We have copies of event fact sheets and program information here and are happy to answer any questions you have. Please feel free to call us at 970-726-1590 or email ccenter@winterparkresort.com.

CONSTANT CONTACT E-NEWSLETTERS - SIGN UP NOW
For important communication, please make sure you are signed up for the general Competition Center emails through Constant Contact.
Sign up for our e-newsletters
E-newsletters and email are the primary way the administrative staff, coaches, and directors communicate with athletes and their families throughout the season regarding schedule information/changes, weekend practice plans, competition information, and more.
Currently each discipline may have specific communication tools they use. Please contact your program director for more info on additional communication resources.

INFORMATION SESSIONS
We recommend all families attend our discipline-specific information sessions at the beginning of each season. Your discipline Program Director or Head Coach will communicate the program orientation schedule for athletes in all other programs.

SICK, INJURED CHILD; SEPARATED FROM THE GROUP
If your child becomes ill or injured during training or competition, the office staff will notify the parents as soon as possible using the contact information provided in the Member Portal. Please make sure we always have your current number, including cell phones. We use the contact info you provide in the Competition Center Member Portal, so please update your contact information annually. In the case of serious illness or injury, the child will be transported to the ski/bike patrol clinic at the base of Winter Park in the Children’s Center.

If a child is separated from their group during training, they are to ski or ride to the nearest lift and notify the lift operator that they have become separated from their Competition Center group. Ski/Bike Patrol clinic will call the Competition Center office, who will contact the coach by radio or cell phone to arrange a meeting place.
LATE OR MISSED DAY
If you arrive late for training, get ready to ski/ride then come to the Competition Center office. We will radio the coach to set up a meeting place. If the coach does not have a radio or it is not possible for the group to come back down to the base at that time, a lunchtime meeting is arranged.

There are no make-up days for any programs, nor are there refunds for days missed (pre-planned or accidental), except in the case of a season-ending injury.

If Berthoud Pass or I-70 is closed, we will follow a similar procedure to a late arrival. It is possible to drive to the Silverthorne exit on I-70, take Hwy 9 to Kremmling. Turn right on Hwy 40 through Granby, Tabernash, Fraser, Winter Park and then Winter Park Resort. This takes about two hours LONGER than your normal commute over the pass.
Please review our Team Jacket Info and FAQ packet for more information regarding jacket sizes, apparel options, order deadline, team prioritization, and pick up.
The Trestle Jr. Gravity Team jersey is included for the Competitive Team (2-3 day program) athletes. Size request is collected during checkout for program registration. The jersey is also available for purchase (pending inventory) for those attending at least one full session. Register by the early-bird deadline to secure your size.

The All Mountain Bike program may also have a special item available for purchase during the season, which varies annually. This item is included at no additional cost for those registered for the All Mountain Bike Unlimited Program.

Mission

To provide exceptional programs and events that inspire lifelong enjoyment of mountain sports, empowering people to realize their full potential in life and sport.

Core Values
Integrity + Excellence + Team + Fun
We are committed to the constant pursuit of excellence within a team environment, emphasizing fun, respect, and integrity.

Program Philosophy
The philosophy of the Winter Park Competition Center is to offer the opportunity to achieve ones’ highest potential as an athlete, person, and competitor. Through the enjoyment of mountain sports, each athlete’s commitment, desires, dreams, and setbacks can provide significant life lessons.

We strive to empower our participants to excel on and off the mountain. We consider the person first, winning second, with a well-rounded approach to sports in order to help our participants be the best version of themselves as an athlete and person – what we call the “total athlete”.

This approach to developing the total athlete is affected by the personal objectives and motivation each competitor brings to their participation in Competition Center programs. This philosophy, applied to the most supportive coaching and training environment we can offer, helps athletes to develop the most important aspect of the total athlete - a positive, healthy, and confident attitude. Cornerstones to the athlete’s mindset are self-motivation, effort, and commitment. An individual’s success in mountain sport competition is directly dependent on his/her approach to these areas.

In an individual sport like skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking, winning as a measure of success would leave us with one person per weekend being successful; the rest might be considered failures. Instead, we use the goal and objective approach in measuring progress. Everyone comes out of this structure successful, and it’s a better environment for all. We place equal emphasis on the development of social skills, physical health, and enjoyment of athletic achievement in mountain sports. We take great pride in the total athlete and how top athletes find success at the highest level of competition.

History

The Competition Center is one of the oldest clubs in the region, originally founded as The Winter Park Ski Club in 1962! It became an experimental part of Winter Park Resort in 1979 and was completely adopted under the resort’s operations in 1982 as the Competition Center. The club has a rich tradition in Alpine, Freestyle and Nordic competition.

Today, the Competition Center offers exceptional ski, snowboard, and mountain bike programs with a variety of training and competition specializations.

Winter:

All Mountain ski, Alpine racing, Freestyle moguls, Terrain Park (slopestyle and halfpipe), Ski/Snowboard Cross, Big Mountain, and Nordic. The Competition Center also offers adult programs in All Mountain and Freestyle moguls.

Summer:

All Mountain Bike Program (AMP Bike) – Cross-Country

Trestle Junior Gravity Team – Downhill/Gravity Mountain Bike

Unlike most other clubs, the Competition Center has the distinct advantage of being a part of Winter Park Resort and utilizing the mountain operations department. The Competition Center staffs a full-time professional events crew. This greatly enhances our year-round training and competition opportunities. The Competition Center is additionally supported by the Winter Park Ski Education Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization that supports programs and athletes through scholarships and donations.

COMPETITION CENTER LOCKER ROOM
*Due to COVID-19, please expect some changes regarding access, as the locker room will accessible for brief pick-up / drop-off of equipment only. Lockers are not guaranteed and are available pending capacity and enrollment numbers for each program. Additional details coming soon.

The Competition Center locker room is for ski and gear storage for participants in our 2-day, 3-day, and full-time ski and snowboard programs. All slots and/or lockers are assigned based first on registration submission date and program type until we reach capacity.

Many of our full-time coaches have their offices located in the back of the locker room. We also have a state-of-the-art computer-based video analysis center inside the locker room. Due to space constraints, participants who do NOT have assigned lockers may NOT store gear in the locker room and can only use the locker room to access the video center or meet with coaches.

Lockers will be assigned at the beginning of the year and assignments will be posted on the bulletin boards and walls inside the locker room. Lockers consist of metal slots for skis or snowboards and can be locked with a standard combination lock or padlock. Athlete must provide lock. The office staff will provide door code to athletes that have assigned ski slots. Athletes should not share the door code with anyone.

Locker room hours are from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. The glass entry door is locked outside of these times and Winter Park Resort security is not authorized to let members in when the locker room is locked. Plan ahead and if you are going away to a competition, take your gear home with you.

The locker room is open during the Winter Park Resort operating season. All items must be removed from the locker room by closing day of the Winter Park side for the winter season. Locks may be cut and equipment may be removed, thrown out, or donated to charity after closing day of the Winter Park side for the winter season.
EQUIPMENT NEEDS
Coaches are available to help you with equipment. For more details, contact your program director.
