History
The Hike for Spencer is held in memory of Spencer Nelson who died in 2010 in a tragic climbing accident on the Maroon Bells. Spencer was an elite athlete for the Winter Park Competition Center and a Division 1 Alpine racer for the University of Colorado.
Since its inception in 2011, the Hike for Spencer has raised over $400,000 for the Winter Park Ski Education Foundation which has been used to fund Winter Park Competition Center Program fees and travel expenditures for youths who otherwise would not have been able to participate in winter snow sports.
Our mission is to ensure that every child who has the desire to participate is given the opportunity. Our goal is to educate our community on the benefits of investing in our youth by helping them become successful individuals through participation in winter sports that emphasize integrity, tenacity, and sportsmanship.
