AGES 8-14

The Winter Park Freestyle Devo Program is the introduction to freestyle and freeskiing and the feeder program for the Junior Qualifier Team, the Junior Freeski Team, and the Big Mountain Team. Athletes ages 8-14 (these ages based on the USSA cutoff date: December 31 of that ski season) have the opportunity to train in a high-paced, structured environment with qualified and caring coaches. The athletes can expect to ski 100% of the mountain throughout the course of the day: flats, moguls, terrain-park, trees, and steeps (snow dependent). Athletes practice their aerial skills in the terrain parks and at the freestyle team jump site. The coaches follow the USSA skill-development season outline to ensure quality training and solid progressions. The athlete can expect to engage in group drills and receive individual feedback based on one's performance. The coaches give specific feedback highlighting what the athlete executes well and what skiing skills he/she can improve. The program realizes the importance of the “whole” package when grouping the athletes: age, ability, discipline or area of focus and group dynamics. We put emphasis on our mission, "Lifelong enjoyment of the Sport." The Devo Program requires one year of participation in an organized ski program before participating. The program is offered on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

FREESTYLE DEVELOPMENT TRAVEL TEAM
The Winter Park Freestyle Devo Travel Team is a competitive mogul program for 8-14 year olds (ages based on the USSA cutoff date: December 31 of that ski season). The Devo Travel team is designed to align with the Rocky Mountain Freestyle’s Devo Freestyle competition series as the next step from the noncompetitive Freestyle Devo Program; this travel team is the preparatory program for the Junior Qualifier Team (RQS).

Program participants have the opportunity to train in a high-paced, structured environment with qualified and caring coaches. The athletes can expect to ski 100% of the mountain depending on snow conditions and timing throughout the course of the day: flats, moguls, terrain-park, trees, and steeps (snow dependent) with an emphasis on mogul skiing skills. Athletes develop their aerial skills in the terrain parks, on the mogul course, and at the freestyle team jump site. Our coaches follow the USSA skill-development season outline to ensure quality training and solid progressions. The athlete can expect to engage in group drills and receive individual feedback based on one’s performance. The coaches give specific feedback highlighting what the athlete executes well and what skiing skills he/she can improve while spending time with each individual setting goals and creating the road map to achieve personal best in sport. As in all Competition Center programs, we put emphasis on our mission, “Lifelong enjoyment of the Sport.”

The Devo Freestyle Travel Team requires one year of participation in an organized ski program before participating. The program is offered on Saturdays and includes coaching at the Rocky Mountain Freestyle Devo competitions.

Freestyle Devo Team Internal Series
When: Saturday, February 13th and Sunday, March 13th
The Internal Series is designed to be a fun competition to allow athletes to test their freestyle mogul and jumping skills in a competition setting. We encourage the athletes to set personal goals for the competition so that success is not tied to results. At the Development level, personal accomplishments raise confidence levels and the enjoyment of skiing. The Internal Series is a one-run mogul competition. It is a non-timed, non-licensed (no USSA or Rocky Mountain License) competition, run through the Winter Park's Competition Center.

The athletes will have time in the morning to inspect and practice on the course before their competition run. This competition also allows the athletes the opportunity to ski hard and cheer on one's team mates.

Deadline to register for each competition is at 5pm the Friday immediately before the event. The Event Day Fact Sheet (start times, run order, location of awards ceremony) will be available at registration / bib pick-up the morning of the competition.

Cost: $20 per event
