The Freeski Team - Park+Pipe is the program for the athletic skier looking to improve their skills in park and pipe. The Freeski Park + Pipe programs are offered as a 1-day, 2-day, and Full-Time program. It is our belief that great park skiers must have exceptional skiing skills. Focusing on progression, safety, and fun, the freeski team will spend time training in Rerailer, Railyard and Dark Territory, based on skill level, but the majority of the time will be spent in the larger park, Dark Territory. Athletes will focus on sliding boxes and rails and furthering their air awareness skills in half-pipe and slopestyle.
This program is a great place to learn and polish up on skills needed for park and pipe. It also offers the opportunity to do a wide variety of competitions (Slopestyle/Halfpipe). It is required that athletes be on the 2-day program or full time program to be on the competitive traveling team. The majority of the competitions are USASA around the state. On the competive team you will work on goal setting, sports psychology, strength and flexibility.
The majority of competitions are USASA around the state. Some athletes will also attend other competitions like the Revolution Tour, Gatorade Freeflow Tour, Aspen Open, and the North Face park+pipe open events. These events are AFP events (Association of Freesking Professionals). Athletes will need to purchase a USASA license http://www.usasa.org, and register for AFP recognition at http://afpworldtour.com for all other non USASA events. These are the events needed for the aspiring athlete who has dreams of the Dew Tour, X Games , or Olympics.
To join this program athletes are expected to be able to hit 3.1 (first jump) in Dark Territory safely and in a controlled manner. Helmets are required during all sessions. Summer training camps at Steamboat Springs water ramps and Windell's at Mt. Hood in July for on snow are available to further the individual's training goals (these camps are not included in the program fee).
