The Freeski Big Mountain Team is designed for advanced skiers who are determined to improve their all mountain skiing abilities. The program focuses on skiing fundamentals necessary for skiing trees, steeps, powder and the most demanding terrain. It is geared toward skiers 13 and up, and is offered one or two days per week on Saturdays and Sundays. Emphasis is placed on safety, skill development, evaluating snow conditions, avalanche awareness and decision making on Winter Park's most difficult terrain in a fun, high-energy environment. They will gain avalanche awareness and practice with avalanche beacons, probes, and shovels. We do not certify avalanche training for participants, but information for certification will be provided. Athletes must have previously been on the ATP Ski Team or have a coach's recommendation to participate in the Freeski Big Mountain Team or they will start off on a one on one with the coach’s to see if this is right program for their ability.
Participants will have the opportunity to travel and compete. The competitive travel team requires participation in the 2 day program. These athletes have the option of competing in various big mountain freeskiing events throughout the season. These competitions (JETA/JFT) are IFSA events around the US and Canada.
