Coach Bios

Freddy Mooney: Freestyle Head Coach & Comp Center Athletic Science Coordinator

I have literally skied my entire life. With roots in Winter Park, my family's connection to the Competition Center originated in 1977-78 when my mom founded and became coach of the very successful Winter Park Freestyle Team. My racing career started in alpine racing at the young age of 5 years, then I transitioned to mogul skiing at 14. Competitive skiing remained the main focus in my life, even as I began college at CU Boulder. The year I turned 19, I was named to the US Freestyle Ski Team and chose to put school on hold while I pursued my Olympic dream, an exciting 6 year journey. Representing my country at international competitions was truly an amazing experience. In 2006 I put my mogul skiing career behind me, returning to school and graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Science from CU Boulder.I have since returned to Winter Park with my wife and daughter, working as the Head Coach of the Freestyle Ski Team and as the Athletic Science Coordinator for the Winter Park Competition Center.
