Kick the city off your shoes at the best little rodeo in Colorado. The High Country Stampede Rodeo Series is a Saturday night classic returning to the Fraser Valley for the 27th straight summer season.
This year's rodeos do their rootin' tootin' thing Saturdays from July 3 through August 28. Thursday night jackpots are scheduled for June 10 - August 12 (but there will not be one on August 5 due to the Middle Park Fair). Western barbecues offer their distinct flavors and aromas to round out evenings of family adventure entertainment.
Bronc Bustin' & Bull Riding
Local and regional cowboys and cowgirls engage in no-holds-barred bronc bustin', bull riding, and other rip roarin' events in hopes of winning their shares of a lucrative cash purse. Even the young wranglers get super competitive in the Junior Rodeo. These rodeo future-stars engage in some of the same events as their seasoned counterparts, including calf roping, barrel racing, and pole bending.
Then the big guys and gals blast into the arena and give a good old-fashioned western show without equal. Watching these skilled riders on their well-trained horses turn the rodeos breakaway events into almost an art form. Calf roping, team roping, barrel racing and pole bending originated from training horses.
Colorful Clowns
Every rodeo has its share of colorful clowns, but their is an important job, in addition to entertaining spectators. During bull riding events, it's the job of the clowns to distract the bull if its rider has been thrown. Thanks to the quick and clever antics of rodeo clowns, many a cowboy's life and limbs have been saved.
Because this may be the first time many visitors have attended a rodeo, the evening's announcer explains how each event is scored to increase the enjoyment and understanding for first timers.
The High Country Stampede Rodeos are presented in the John Work Arena, one mile west of Fraser. The all-weather arena features a permanent cover over its seating area, so more than 1,000 spectators are comfortable during each week's rodeo.

Directions
Take Hwy 40 west to Fraser, and turn left at the signal.
Go under the overpass and veer right when the road splits.
Turn left on Country Road #73, go up the hill; the rodeo is on the right hand side.
